Duolingo is a web-based language-learning tool and it is completely free to sign up. Each lesson in Duolingo includes a variety of speaking, listening, translation, and multiple choice challenges. Feedback is immediate and if the user is having trouble the program will inform the user on how to improve. Duolingo motivates the learner by keeping track of his or her progress.

Quia gives students access to millions of shared activities in over 300 categories. It is very easy to search for the topic that you are interested in learning about. Within the topic, one can find flashcards and multiple games to help the student learn the material. The activities keep track of correct and incorrect responses. If the topic of instruction is not available, the student can sign up for an account and create their own activities for revision purposes.

The program provides the student with and electronic textbook that starts at level 0, meaning this program is developed for beginners. This program includes videos, audio clips, and grammar exercises and lessons. The textbook that accompanies the website is available for free and may be printed.

French in Action is an instructional video series that provides that provides 52 lessons that assume no prior knowledge of the French language. The lessons are taught entirely in French that progressively get harder with each lesson. This program uses active participation to quickly increase fluency in French.

There are pronunciation and listening activities as well. This site provides seven levels of French, each one more difficult than the previous lesson.
