french 1 Course Introduction
Students in this French 1 course will read, write and speak effectively in French and comprehend the spoken language. French 1 students need to develop good problem-solving skills in order to make linguistic and cultural comparisons. Students are encouraged to make connections between French and other disciplines.
This course is an introduction to the French language and culture. The four basic skills: listening, speaking, reading and writing are developed with an emphasis on effective oral communication. This is achieved through a variety of activities aimed at addressing different learning styles. These activities may include but are not limited to: listening activities, oral drills, dialoguing, and independent cultural projects. This course is designed to develop the students' mastery of French by giving them the opportunity to practice the language while deepening and expanding their insights into contemporary French culture.

Teaching philosophy
I believe that in the foreign language classroom it is vital to keep the students motivated. My personal style of teaching brings enthusiasm, cultural elements, and technology into the classroom to increase learning motivation. I teach my students to communicate in a foreign language and, perhaps more importantly, to gain an appreciation for another language and culture.
My objective as a teacher is to motivate my students to a point where they develop a desire to learn. In my quest to develop independent thinkers, I also strive to promote cross-cultural awareness and appreciation. I tend to consider the role of the language teacher as facilitator, rather than instructor. A facilitator is someone who is knowledgeable about the subject being taught and has experienced the same kind of learning process that his students are experiencing now. I know where the difficulties are and can advise the students. I acknowledge that there are different learning styles and provide the students with the opportunities for making progress and achieving success.
I believe that technology plays an important role in the foreign language classroom. I try to use different media to reach different types of learners. The technological resources that I have learned to use compliment and further the real-world communicative intent of my classroom.

personal information
I have been a classroom teacher for eight years. I am now a high school French teacher in my hometown. I am married and we are expecting a boy in October. I have a master's degree in French and I am currently working on another master's degree in Instructional Technology. As much as I enjoy teaching, I am interested in a career where I can share my passion for educational technology with other teachers. My hobbies are traveling and working on projects around the house. I have spent a lot of time in France and look forward to sharing my experiences with the students.
